The Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group is composed of five board-certified specialists, two emergency veterinarians, and over 30 paraprofessionals that allow VMSG to provide specialty veterinary care that is incomparable in quality and service. In order to provide the highest quality of medical care, we believe in implementing an integrated team approach. Our dedication and combined talents, skills, and knowledge allow us to provide the best medical, surgical, and critical care available in veterinary medicine.
We have a high level of expectation for our staff and the service we provide. To be a VMSG employee, you are expected to exemplify levels beyond the ordinary in the areas of Quality, Compassion, Integrity, and Service. Nurses at VMSG are required to receive extensive and specialized training to provide quality care to our animal patients.
At VMSG we have five levels of paraprofessional staff. The first level, the Animal Caretaker, provides for the comfort of all of our patients, and is able to advance to nursing after undertaking training. The Animal Caretaker is competent at basic patient monitoring, housekeeping, and assisting the doctors and nurses.
At the second level we have Level One Nurses who are familiar with various tasks performed throughout the hospital. The Level One Nurse is responsible for the basic care of the patients as well as for some fundamental treatments and diagnostic tests ordered by the specialists or interns.
The third level consists of our Level Two nurses who are proficient with tasks performed in the treatment room, radiology, medicine, wards, and in the laboratory. The Level Two Nurse is trained and able to work in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is at the level of a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Our RVTs are licensed and fully trained and able to work in any area throughout the hospital, including administering advanced medical services such as monitoring critical patients’ anesthesia and administering chemotherapeutics.
RVTs are supervised by the Veterinary Medical Board and must complete a rigorous training program in order to obtain their credentials and at VMSG we employ them with the expectation of superior patient care.

We call our front office staff by a special name at VMSG because they are so much more than just receptionists. Our Client Hosts are trained to uphold VMSG’s core values of Quality, Integrity, Compassion, and Service while making sure every client’s experience runs as smoothly as possible. Each Client Host is trained to be able to check clients in and out, discuss treatment plans, answer questions from owners about a variety of topics, coordinate with owners to schedule appointments, and support our doctors and nursing staff in many ways.
